BAEMIN pilots electric-motorcycle scheme

BAEMIN signed a partnership agreement with Selex Motors on April 25 to pilot an electric-motorcycle scheme for the online food-delivery service.

According to the International Trade Administration, the electric vehicle industry in Vietnam is still in its nascent stage but shows significant prospects.

Vietnam is the world’s fourth-largest motorcycle market and shows great potential to transition to electric motorcycles. The country has a young and growing population who are interested in advanced technologies, fuel savings, and environmental awareness.

Motorcyclesdata.com - a trusted motorcycle review website - reported on a growth rate of 10 per cent in Vietnam’s electric motorcycle sales in 2021, which was more than triple the figure of 2018, which saw 2.9 per cent. The sector saw rapid growth despite the impact of the COVID-19 pandemic.

Through its collaboration with Selex, BAEMIN aims to support riders looking to switch from traditional gasoline vehicles to electric motorcycles. The use of electric motorcycles optimises operating costs and provides a quiet and smoke-free experience for riders and pedestrians alike.

During the initial trial phase, BAEMIN riders will use Selex’s electric motorcycles and provide feedback on their experiences. After that, the BAEMIN team will decide on the appropriate collaboration policies and provide rider support.

Once the trial phase ends, the riders with the best delivery records for BAEMIN will receive electric motorcycles directly from the Selex team.

Selex Motors is a leading electric vehicle manufacturer with an optimised ecosystem for delivery, providing breakthrough solutions in battery charging. Users can save up to 40 per cent of their operating costs and improve delivery performance through the bikes’ specialised design and Internet of Things technology integrated into the mobile application.

BEAMIN riders can change batteries at designated stations in under 2 minutes instead of waiting for a full charge. Currently, the Selex battery exchange system has more than 30 locations in Hanoi and more than 20 locations in Ho Chi Minh City, offering an optimal service for delivery drivers for whom time management is crucial.

Selex provides the only commercial electric vehicles in Southeast Asia with outstanding carrying capacity, 50 per cent higher in weight and volume than other models, with only half the maintenance costs of gasoline-powered vehicles.

Nguyen Huu Phuoc Nguyen, CEO of Selex Motors said, “Selex pursues a mission to promote green logistics, protect the environment, and help riders increase income by reducing energy and maintenance costs. We expect to cover every delivery route in Vietnam in the near future, bringing optimal services and reliable vehicles to riders.”

In the same vein, Jinwoo Song, CEO of BAEMIN Vietnam said, “This collaboration with Selex is the next step in our journey towards sustainable development. Currently, BAEMIN is the top-ranked app in terms of customer satisfaction and is present in 21 provinces and cities serving a large number of users.”

“This collaboration with Selex demonstrates the contribution of both parties in implementing the government’s policy towards a net-zero emissions goal by 2050,” Song added.
