China remains key market for Vietnam's agricultural products
Vietnam's agricultural, forestry, and aquatic product exports reached $56.74 billion in the first 11 months of 2024, marking a 19% increase compared to the same period in 2023, according to the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development.
China ranked as the second-largest importer of these products, accounting for 21.6% of the total.
China is currently Vietnam's largest trading partner and a crucial market for agricultural, forestry, and aquatic products.
Bilateral trade between the two countries accounts for one-quarter of Vietnam's total import and export turnover with the world. Conversely, Vietnam is one of China's largest trading partners globally and its largest trading partner within ASEAN.
Mr. Le Thanh Hoa, Deputy Director of the Department of Quality, Processing, and Market Development at the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development, reported steady growth in agricultural, forestry, and aquatic product exports and imports.
Accordingly, in the first 11 months of 2024, total trade with China reached $16 billion, a 13.4% increase year-on-year. Strong growth was observed in various sectors, including fruits and vegetables (approximately $4.1 billion, up 28.7%) and seafood ($1.4 billion, 23.2%).
Currently, China has granted licenses to 11 Vietnamese dairy factories and dairy product companies, and nine Vietnamese bird's nest businesses for import. Recently, farmed monkeys and crocodiles have also gained export protocols to China. It has also recognized a list of Vietnam's 48 live aquatic species and 128 types of aquatic products for import.
