China's CRCC eyes Vietnam's railway projects

Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh met with Chairman of the China Railway Construction Corporation (CRCC), Mr. Dai Hegen, in Kunming city on November 6 as part of his ongoing working visit to China, the Government News reported.

CRCC, ranked 39th on the Fortune Global 500 list, has designed and built over 20,000 km of railway lines and 8,000 expressways in China.

The China Civil Engineering Construction Corporation (CCECC), a subsidiary of CRCC, oversees international railway construction projects. To date, CCECC has constructed over 9,000 km of railway abroad, accounting for 80% of China's overseas railway projects.

During the meeting, Chairman Dai expressed CRCC’s keen interest in the Kunming-Lao Cai-Ha Noi-Hai Phong railway construction project and the potential participation in Vietnam's North-South high-speed railway project.

Prime Minister Chinh called for enhanced cooperation between the enterprises of both countries to advance high-level agreements and specific cooperation objectives established by leaders of the two countries.

He welcomed CRCC’s plans to increase investments in Vietnam and urged the corporation to collaborate with relevant Vietnamese ministries, sectors, and agencies on the Kunming-Lao Cai-Ha Noi-Hai Phong railway project.

This project, the Prime Minister emphasized, is crucial for linking the "Two Corridors, One Belt" Framework with the "Belt and Road" Initiative.

Vietnam aims to begin construction of the railway in 2025, the Prime Minister noted.
