Conference promotes investment ties between Vietnamese and Cambodian localities

The event drew representatives from Cambodia’s Ministry of Economy and Finance, leaders of Stung Treng and several northeastern Cambodian provinces, along with business associations and local enterprises. The Vietnamese delegation was led by Nguyen Tuan Thanh, Vice Chairman of the Gia Lai provincial People’s Committee.

Speaking at the conference, Stung Treng Governor Sor Soputra highlighted the growing strength of Cambodia-Vietnam relations and said the event will help advance investment cooperation between Stung Treng and Gia Lai in line with bilateral commitments.

He reaffirmed Stung Treng’s readiness to facilitate and support investors, particularly those from Gia Lai and other Vietnamese localities, in accordance with Cambodia’s investment law.

The event served not only as a platform to highlight Stung Treng’s investment potential and business environment, but also as a practical forum for local authorities and businesses from both countries to expand partnerships and explore new opportunities in investment, trade, agriculture, tourism and logistics, Thanh said.

He noted that cooperation with Cambodian localities, particularly in the northeastern region, remains an important strategic priority for Gia Lai in external economic relations, investment promotion and people-to-people exchanges.

According to Thanh, Gia Lai and Stung Treng have highly complementary strengths. While Stung Treng offers abundant land resources and significant development potential, Gia Lai has advantages in transport connectivity, processing industries, logistics and market access.

These complementary strengths open up new opportunities for cooperation in agriculture, agro-forestry processing, energy, trade, services and cross-border economic development, he added.

During the conference, several cooperation documents were signed, including a 2026-2030 memorandum of understanding between youth unions of Stung Treng and Gia Lai, as well as an investment research agreement on large-scale timber plantation development.

Sim Vireak, Under Secretary of State at Cambodia’s Ministry of Economy and Finance, called on both provinces to strengthen coordination mechanisms, increase investment promotion and expand cooperation in priority sectors such as high-tech agriculture, agro-industry, agricultural processing, eco-cultural tourism, renewable energy, trade and services.

He also called for stronger public-private cooperation, closer business networks between enterprises in the two provinces, and greater efforts in human resource development, vocational training and experience-sharing to meet labour market demand, while maintaining peace, security and strong cooperation in border areas.

As part of the conference, representatives from Stung Treng’s departments and agencies presented the province’s investment potential in key sectors, including tourism, agriculture, forestry, fisheries, industry and mining.

In addition to the investment forum and sector-focused discussions, delegates visited several Vietnamese and local businesses operating in the province. An exhibition featuring more than 50 booths also showcased products from business communities of both localities and countries.

The three-day investment promotion programme concluded on June 18 with a fireworks display and cultural performances at Techo Thipdei Square in central Stung Treng city, featuring traditional music and dance performances by artists from both nations
