Germany remains largest consumer of Vietnamese canned tuna in EU
The product accounted for nearly 49% of Vietnam’s total tuna export turnover to this demanding market.
Currently, Germany, Poland, the Netherlands, Italy, Cyprus, and Denmark make up the largest consumers of Vietnamese canned tuna in the EU.
Notably, the export of the product to Poland and Denmark grew by 300% and 246%, respectively, compared to the same period last year.
In contrast, the Netherlands has moved to reduce its imports of canned tuna from Vietnam due to rising transportation costs.
In fact, EU member states have made efforts to reduce tuna imports through Dutch transit ports and instead focus on increasing direct imports in a bid to reduce costs.
According to the VASEP, while the EU has reduced its imports of canned tuna from its main suppliers, it has also increased its imports from Vietnam.
Ecuador, the Ivory Coast, and the Seychelles are currently the three largest suppliers of canned tuna to the EU, accounting for 44% of the total tuna import volume of this market.
