National Australia Bank seeks opportunities in digital transformation

National Australia Bank (NAB) is seeking opportunities related to digital transformation in Vietnam to tap into the growing local demand.

A delegation of NAB led by its CEO Ross MacEwan on February 24 met with Deputy Minister of Information and Communications Nguyen Huy Dung in Hanoi to discuss possibilities on cooperating in digital transformation in the country.

MacEwan said that NAB had has strengths in the fields of IT, innovation and cybersecurity. And NAB was willing to share the digital transformation experiences of NAB.

He also discussed the possibilities of cooperating between NAB and the Ministry of Information and Communications (MIC) in training of tech experts, and IT manpower in Vietnam.

In response, the deputy minister said that Vietnam and Australia were promoting the implementation of the Strategy to strengthen economic cooperation (signed by the prime ministers of the two countries in November 2021), in which the two sides are coordinating to survey Vietnam’s needs to build a cooperation framework and sign cooperation agreements in the field of digital economy.

Dung added that the two sides needed to have a specific plan to promote cooperation, set up a group of experts to exchange and share experiences in the field of information and communication, and build digital government, digital economy and society. The discussions were part of the 50th anniversary of diplomatic relations between the two countries.

Vietnam’s digital transformation has been attracting attention from businesses, international organisations and countries worldwide.

On February 13, Minister of Information and Communications Nguyen Manh Hung met with US trade representative Katherine Tai and US Ambassador to Vietnam Marc E. Knapper to discuss boosting bilateral ties in digital economy and digital trade.

The year 2022 witnessed Vietnam further strengthen ties with many countries in digital transformation, and the ICT industry. They include the United States, the United Nations, Japan, and Laos, showing how important Vietnam’s technology market is to international partners.
