Product traceability system launched to boost market transparency, digital trade

Traceability platform to strengthen transparency and consumer trust

Under Circular No. 31 recently issued by the Ministry of Industry and Trade, products classified as high-risk goods will be required to implement traceability measures through the national traceability platform, VeriGoods, or through enterprise-operated systems that are connected and synchronised with the national database.

The new mechanism is designed to enable end-to-end tracking of products throughout the supply chain, from production and distribution to final consumption.

The Ministry of Industry and Trade will operate the centralised platform at verigoods.vn, serving as a national hub for receiving, storing, managing, and connecting traceability data submitted by businesses. Each product will be assigned a unique identification code, allowing information to be displayed and shared across the supply chain.

The system will also provide consumers with free access to key product information, including product names, images, manufacturers or distributors, company addresses, brands, trademarks, batch numbers, serial numbers, and expiration dates where applicable.

Beyond information access, consumers will be able to report inaccurate data or suspected fraud directly to authorities through the platform. This mechanism is expected to enhance public oversight while strengthening accountability among businesses.

To encourage participation, companies that comply with traceability requirements will receive a “green verification” status, signaling transparency and regulatory compliance. Participating businesses will also receive technical support and may benefit from promotional and communication programmes organised by the ministry.

Phased implementation supports digital supply chains, market modernisation

The rollout will take place in stages. Beginning July 1, 2026, businesses will register accounts, obtain identification codes, and verify product information within the system.

From January 1, 2027, traceability compliance will become mandatory for products subject to the regulation before they can be placed on the market. Newly established businesses operating after this date will be required to comply from the outset.

The Ministry of Industry and Trade will conduct inspections and monitoring activities to ensure the accuracy and reliability of traceability data. Identification codes may be suspended if violations are detected or if products pose potential safety risks.

Authorities expect the new framework to strengthen state management of trade activities while improving market transparency and consumer confidence. In the longer term, the traceability system is envisioned not only as a regulatory tool but also as a critical data infrastructure supporting digital commerce, smart logistics, and the development of modern supply chains in Vietnam.
