Tea exports enjoy double-digit growth in first half

The average export price throughout the reviewed period stood at an estimated US$1,759.9 per ton, up 4.2% against the same period from last year.

June alone saw the country earn US$32 million from exporting 15,000 tonnes of tea, up 54.9% in volume and 86.4% in value on-year, with the average export price being estimated at US$2,127.8 per tonne, up 20.3% compared to June last year.

Two types of green and black tea witnessed positive export growth during the five-month period, with black tea exports reaching US$44.6 million, up 45.5% in volume and 43.4% in value on-year.

Meanwhile, black tea exports recorded US$26.6 million in turnover, up 15.6% in volume and 8.6% in value against the same period from last year.

According to statistics compiled by the Vietnam Tea Association, Vietnam currently ranks fifth in the world in terms of tea exports and seventh in terms of global tea production. At present, Vietnamese tea products are exported to 74 countries and territories around the world.

Furthermore, the country also ranked second in the world, just behind China in terms of green tea export volume. With regards to export markets, Pakistan represents the largest consumer of Vietnamese tea.

Industry insiders pointed out that due to the increasingly strict requirements set out within the global market, tea growing areas have been established towards organic safety in order to help protect producers and consumers’ health whilst further developing the sustainable and green agriculture industry.
