Nearly 2.5 tonnes of early-ripening lychees to enter Middle East market

The firm has already signed a consumption contract with farmers in order to purchase 100 tonnes of fresh lychees and about 2,500 tonnes of processed lychees for export to the United States, Japan, European countries, and the Middle East, said Bao.

This year, due to unfavourable weather conditions, famers have not enjoyed a bumper crop, meaning that the purchasing price sits between 15% and 20% higher than other years.

Despite the scarce supply source, businesses have applied a strict inspection process for export products by selecting safe lychee growing areas in line with VietGAP and GlobalGAP standards.

Le Ba Thanh, deputy director of the Department of Agriculture and Rural Development of Bac Giang province, said the locality has introduced bold measures to take care of lychees to ensure the best possible quality and to meet the stringent requirements set by importers such as China, the EU, Japan, and the US.

Bac Giang is expected to host a conference on May 23 to promote the consumption of early ripening lychees with the participation of distributors, representatives of e-commerce platforms, and lychee growers that have been granted production area codes for export.
