Vietnamese seaports to handle 1.2-1.4 billion tonnes of cargo by 2030

Seaport groups 1 and 4 are forecast to handle the highest cargo volumes by 2030, 321-383 million tonnes for group 1 and 499-564 million tonnes for group 2.

Passenger traffic through seaports is anticipated to reach between 17-19 million by 2030, including both international and domestic passengers.

The total land required by 2030 is projected at 33,800 hectares, covering seaport development areas, the international transshipment port in Can Gio, and associated industrial and logistics zones. Of this, 17,300 hectares will be dedicated to seaports.

Meanwhile, the total water surface demand will hit approximately 606,000 hectares.

The investment required for the seaport system by 2030 is estimated at nearly VND352 trillion (US$13.9 billion), including VND72.8 trillion for public maritime infrastructure and VND278.7 trillion for port investment.
