Chinese and Indian retail giants to visit Vietnam in search of suppliers

Two leading retailers—Pagoda (China) and Reliance Retail (India)—have confirmed their participation in the Vietnam International Sourcing 2026 expo, according to the Ministry of Industry and Trade (MoIT).

The event is scheduled to take place from September 3–5, at the Saigon Exhibition and Convention Center (SECC).

Founded in 2001 in Shenzhen, Pagoda is a pioneer that has built a closed ecosystem in China's fruit distribution sector. After more than 20 years of development, the group boasts a massive network of over 6,000 stores across 180 cities, serving approximately 90 million loyalty members.

The Group highly values the Vietnamese supply market due to its favorable natural conditions, year-round production capacity, and the rich diversity of tropical fruits. Currently, Pagoda is sourcing large quantities of Vietnam's key products, including durian, Siamese coconut, banana, dragon fruit, jackfruit, mango, and mangosteen, to meet the growing demand of Chinese consumers.

At the upcoming expo, Pagoda aims to further expand its imports of Vietnamese fruits approved for official export. The group is prioritizing partners with long-term, stable supply capacities, modern preliminary processing systems, and those who meet strict international standards for quality, traceability, and food safety.

For specialty fruit lines, Pagoda hopes to collaborate with Vietnamese enterprises to standardize production and develop premium "gift-grade" products, positioning the brand in the high-value-added segment.

Parallel to the fresh produce segment, Vietnam’s consumer goods, textiles, and processed food industries are also seeing significant opportunities in the Indian market through the presence of Reliance Retail. As India's largest retail system, it is a subsidiary of Reliance Industries Limited (RIL)—India's largest private corporation and one of Asia’s top companies by market capitalization, with a history dating back to 1958.

With a network of tens of thousands of stores and an omni-channel retail platform serving hundreds of millions of consumers, Reliance Retail is attending the expo to secure stable, long-term suppliers.

The group expressed a need to import a wide range of product categories that align with Vietnam’s manufacturing strengths, including: agricultural products, processed foods, seafood, coffee, cashews, pepper, wooden furniture, household appliances, textiles, footwear, and other consumer goods. These sectors all show exceptional growth potential in India, driven by the country’s booming middle class.

Establishing direct partnerships with Reliance Retail is considered a "golden opportunity" for Vietnamese enterprises to bypass middlemen, thereby increasing export profit margins and gradually building a solid foothold in the high-potential South Asian market.

The MoIT noted that the simultaneous presence of both Pagoda and Reliance Retail at Vietnam International Sourcing 2026 is more than just a search for orders; it serves as a benchmark and a driving force for domestic enterprises to innovate and upgrade their standards to compete globally.
