VN seeks investors for airplane maintenance center at Long Thanh Airport
The Ministry of Transport (MOT) has decided to organize domestic open bidding to select investors to implement a project on building an airplane maintenance center No1 at Long Thanh International Airport.
Prior to that, the Civil Aviation Authority of Vietnam (CAAV) submitted to the ministry a proposal on selecting investors for the project through open bidding.
Replying to CAAV’s document, MOT requested the agency to take responsibility for publicizing the list of investors meeting preliminary requirements needed to undertake the project as per regulations of the Law on Bidding, Decree 25 and other legal documents.
CAAV will also be responsible for the results of detailed assessments about investors’ capacity and experience according to the law.
CAAV has been requested to urgently submit the plan on selecting investors which will serve as the basis for the next steps to implement the project, ensuring compliance of current regulations, with an emphasis on the content shown in the appraisal report of the Department of Construction Investment Management.
CAAV has publicized information about the list of investment projects to build an aircraft maintenance area No 1 at Long Thanh International Airport as a basis for determining the number of interested investors and submitted applications for project implementation.
To date, two investors have submitted dossiers for registration, namely Vietjet and VAECO (Vietnam Airlines Engineering Company Ltd).
Preliminary assessments show that both of them can meet requirements to implement the project.
Under Circular 23/2021, if there are two or more investors satisfying requirements on capability and experience, MOT will release a decision on organizing open bids to select the contractors. CAAV will act as the bidding party.
Lai Xuan Thanh, chair of the Airports Corporation of Vietnam (ACV), said the project on building Long Thanh International Airport to serve 100 million passengers and 5 million tons of cargo each year, and the project on expanding Tan Son Nhat Airport with capacity of 50 million passengers, are two important national projects.
The projects have important significance for the aviation industry and the socio-economic development of the southern key economic region and Vietnam in general.
The connection will create a powerful and modern airport cluster to become one of the most important regional aviation centers in the future. This will increase the competitiveness of Vietnam’s aviation industry, contributing to the the strategy on transport infrastructure development.
In late August, Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh commanded the start of the construction of three bidding packages at Long Thanh project and Tan Son Nhat Airport, worth VND53 trillion.
