Da Nang seeks Russian investment in free trade zone, financial centre

The invitation was made during a working session on June 22 between a Da Nang delegation, led by Nguyen Duc Dung, deputy secretary of the municipal Party Committee and chairman of the municipal People's Council, and the Committee for External Relations of the Leningrad Region as part of the delegation's working visit to Russia.

During the meeting, Dung introduced Da Nang's development potential, competitive advantages and strategic vision for the coming years.

Da Nang is currently developing Vietnam's first free trade zone, covering approximately 1,881 hectares and comprising manufacturing, logistics, trade and services, digital technology and innovation zones. The city has also been selected by the National Assembly as one of two locations designated to host Vietnam's international financial centre. These projects are expected to become new growth drivers, creating significant investment opportunities for foreign businesses, including those from Russia.

To enhance economic and trade cooperation between the two localities, Dung proposed that the Leningrad Region assist in connecting Russian businesses with investment opportunities in Da Nang's free trade zone and international financial centre.

For her part, Mikachenko Anastasia Viktorovna, chairwoman of the Committee for External Relations of the Leningrad Region, stated that Leningrad is a dynamic economic hub of Russia, driven by four pillars, namely industry (petrochemicals, paper, and food processing), seaports, agriculture, and ecotourism.

She noted that the region's port system serves as a major trade gateway, handling more than 25% of Russia's total cargo throughput.

On this occasion, Mikachenko invited Da Nang City to send a delegation to the Baltic Regional Investment Forum (BRIF) slated for September 2026 in Leningrad Region in order to further promote its potential and explore cooperation opportunities.

The working trip demonstrates the determination of both localities to advance substantive cooperation programmes and connect businesses in their respective areas of strength, while also contributing to deepening the traditional friendship between Vietnam and Russia.
