Fed rate increase provides opportunity to boost Vietnam's exports and improve trade balance
According to Assoc. Prof. Dr. Nguyen Thuong Lang, a senior lecturer at the Institute of International Trade and Economics under the National Economics University, this move strengthens the US dollar, creating favorable conditions for Vietnamese goods and services exported to the US while increasing the appeal of inbound US investment. Over the long term, this dynamic will generate positive signals to help narrow the trade deficit this year.
In response to these international market shifts, management agencies and enterprises are advised to implement flexible strategies.
Regarding monetary policy management, the State Bank of Vietnam has made timely and appropriate exchange rate adjustments, and management agencies must continue monitoring market developments closely while remaining prepared to deploy flexible tools and foreign exchange reserves to stabilize the domestic currency and prevent excessive depreciation that could cause macroeconomic imbalances.
For export enterprises, this serves as an opportunity to proactively expand market presence, secure new clients, sign long-term contracts, and enhance product competitiveness amid global currency fluctuations.
Meanwhile, import enterprises must actively diversify sourcing markets for raw materials and components, optimize costs, and strengthen forecasting capabilities to hedge against supply chain disruption risks.
