Agricultural sector aims for full-year export target of US$74 billion
During a regular press briefing on September 16, ministry officials reported that agro-forestry- fishery exports fetched US$49.3 billion during the eight months of the year, marking a 7% year-on-year increase. Total import turnover stood at US$35.06 billion, resulting in a trade surplus of US$14.25 billion for the sector.
China remained the largest export market with US$11.2 billion, up 22.1%, followed by the US at US$9.4 billion and Japan at US$3.3 billion.
Production across the sector through August successfully met domestic consumption and export demands. Total fishery production reached 6.95 million tons, up 3.8%. Meanwhile, the broader agricultural GDP growth rate continued to exceed the government’s targets, registering 3.87% in the first half of the year.
To reach the full-year growth target of 4% and secure the US$74 billion export milestone, the ministry has instructed the entire sector to monitor market dynamics, streamline technical barriers, accelerate the issuance of cultivation area codes, and resolve bottlenecks for key commodities. Measures to remove the European Commission's illegal, unreported, and unregulated (IUU) yellow card are being resolutely implemented.
Alongside promoting production and exports, the sector will proactively prevent natural disasters, particularly against storms and tropical depressions threatening northern mountainous and central provinces, to safeguard production outcomes. Furthermore, the ministry aims to disburse 100% of allocated public investment capital and remove bottlenecks regarding land, minerals, and water resources to support business and investment activities.
